چکیده

Background Extracellular volume fraction cardiac magnetic resonance (ECV-CMR) enables quantitative myocardial tissue characterization. Increased myocardial ECV is correlated to myocardial fibrosis, inversely related to the left ventricle ejection fraction (LVEF), and an independent predictor of mortality. Dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) is characterized by decreased LVEF and increased LV end-diastolic volume (EDV). We sought to determine the prevalence of increased myocardial ECV in DCM.

The value of myocardial perfusion imaging in differentiating between idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathy from the ischemic form [Persian]

Introduction: Differentiating between ischemic cardiomyopathy (ICM) and idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathy (IDCM) is important as coronary revascularization can improve prognosis in the ischemic subgroup. Due to inherent problems of coronary angiography in patients with depressed ejection fraction (EF) introducing a noninvasive tool to diagnose those who will benefit from angiography seems...

Non-invasive measurement of myocardial extracellular volume using T1 mapping as a novel biomarker of diffuse fibrosis in dilated cardiomyopathy

Background Diffuse myocardial fibrosis is frequently observed in histologies of dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM). T1-mapping techniques have the potential to measure fibrosis quantitatively and therefore provide novel cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) insights into myocardial tissue characterization beyond the presently employed late gadolinium enhanced (LGE) techniques. Fibrosis results in expansio...

Quantitative assessment of myocardial extracellular volume fraction in non-ischemic dilated cardiomyopathy and its relation to systolic dysfunction

Background Interstitial myocardial fibrosis is a histological hallmark of non-ischemic dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM), and may play an important role in adverse remodelling and progressive systolic dysfunction. T1-mapping enables noninvasive assessment of diffuse fibrosis by quantification of myocardial extracellular volume fraction (ECV). We hypothesized that CMR would identify a raised ECV in D...

Cardiac magnetic resonance imaging of myocardial contrast uptake and blood flow in patients affected with idiopathic or familial dilated cardiomyopathy.

Idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathy (IDC) is characterized by left ventricular (LV) enlargement with systolic dysfunction, other causes excluded. When inherited, it represents familial dilated cardiomyopathy (FDC). We hypothesized that IDC or FDC would show with cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) increased myocardial accumulation of gadolinium contrast at steady state and decreased baseline myocard...

Extracellular volume assessed by CMR T1-mapping correlates with histologically determined amount of diffuse fibrosis in DCM

Background Diffuse myocardial fibrosis (MF) in dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) is closely related to systolic and diastolic cardiac failure and could be identified as a major independent value prediciting clinical outcome. It results from elevated levels of collagen and is therefore associated with an expansion of the extracellular volume (ECV). Up to now, the detection of MF requires myocardial b...
